Sharon and I are beginning to plan a week's sailing trip on the Florida
gulf side for next March or April. We were thinking
of putting in at Apalachicola and maybe going to Carabelle. The
cruising guide we have touts the area as part of the "nature coast".
I've been reading a publication called "Southwinds: News and Views for
Southern Sailors" where there have appeared some letters reporting
"harrassment" by the Florida authorities.
I am curious whether any of you who might live in Florida or have
trailer sailed there have run into unpleasant encounters? I should
mention that it does appear that the editor of "Southwinds" does have an
attitude about this issue so I'm not sure how much stock to put in the
stories. There was at least one letter from a Pensacola native who
expressed that he and his friends had never had any of the sorts of
problems that were being reported.
We are up on the boating rules and regs, and I figured that I would do
some homework on Florida's specific waterway rules before we go. Seems
like if we behave ourselves and all our papers are in order we shouldn't
have any problems. Yes, no?
Joe
