[Rhodes22-list] Future of Da List

Ben,

Mailman has a digest mode and a vacation mode anyone can switch to at
any time.

If all someone wants are R-22 related posts they might start by asking
R-22 related questions.

Then they can switch to Digest Mode and read only the R-22 related answers.

It's easy enough to be your own moderator. Don't like somebody? Filter
them out.

The problem with the bulletin board and "forum" formats is that the
biggest bullies wind up at the top of heap with posts that are often
entirely wrong.

If we look back at Rummy's replies we will find that his solution always
involved Mt. Gay Rum. It was a huge joke, and fine with everyone. There
was always someone else to provide more specifics. Nobody complained
about Rummy's weather reports noting conditions on his lake. Or sports
scores and occasional bets.

For that matter, no one complained about Michael posting his resume.

We watched on as list members got fired for spending work time on this list.

There were some who felt Jokes should not be allowed.

Alternate lists were started.

One of our members created an extensive FAQ.

And if I simply Google "Rhodes22:Penetrol" (no quotation marks) I can
come up with 82 of the best comments on the subject IMHO that appeared
on our list over the past 10 years.

Many of those comments conflict with each other, both with regard to
facts and opinion.

This list is still around because it works.

To quote me...and I think Wally has said this, too..."If it ain't broke,
don't fix it."
