[Rhodes22-list] Sorry I meant the "new" Yamaha 8 or 9.9 hp

David,

Thanks for responding, but "my bad" ... I meant the "new" T8ELH or T9.9ELH
outboards with the gearshift and throttle controls on the motor tiller (as
opposed to the sailboat tiller). Apparently the UPP with sailboat tiller
mounted controls was developed for a motor that's no longer available new
and Stan is using either used motors with the controls on the sailboat
tiller or a new Yamaha 8 hp motor (the T8ELH I presume) that has the
controls for both the throttle and gearshift on the motor tiller. Stan
doesn't relocate the controls with these newer motors. Apparently the old
motor was the only one Stan had found where the remote cables came out the
side of the motor housing rather than the front. With the cables coming out
the front there is apparently some issue with cable bending radius and
binding.

My Admiral and I got to use the UPP on Stan's test boat and liked it, but
don't think the extra cost is really worth it in this case. Stan is really
his own worst competition here as his 7:1 manual system sounds very, very
good. Anyway we're looking for feedback on the new T8ELH from Yamaha and
the even newer T9.9ELH both of which have the gear shift right behind the
throttle on the motor tiller. Not quite as good as having them on the
sailboat tiller, but not bad if they're easy to reach from the port stern
seat.

Guess I don't know what the old motors weigh, the T8ELH comes in at right
about 80 lbs. Manageable by one, easy for two (or one with some mechanical
advantage).

What my Admiral and I will miss from the UPP package is the rudder/motor
interconnect. That was great and if we can't get Stan to unbundle that from
a UPP package we'll have to work on engineering one ourselves.
