Do keep us informed how you plan to proceed.  Keep in mind that you have
access to a former member of this forum who knew all the correct technical
answers, aka, Roger.  His advice might be worth seeking.  Maybe he would
even succumb to a malt beverage?

If you recall, I started working with epoxies while the list was young and
he offered many technical suggestions.  I have now rebuilt a boat, so might
be able to make some suggestions.  If you plan to have your Tim do the
repairs, make sure that he knows which epoxies to use.  If you can get at
where the chain plate goes by taking out a port light, then you could save a
great deal of either inside or outside repair work.  John’s idea has merit.
