Mike,
Sailing, Inc. did it.  They attached a 2X2 that runs under
each bench to oak plates bolted to the cabin and lazarette bulkheads.  The
2X2s are probably pine and unnoticable.  Also, my plastic storage bins
slide under just the same.
Also, I suggest a compression post for
the mast.  Stan has an aluminum one, but I fashioned my own from a full
oak round because I think it looks better.  An additional benefit is that
it serves as a handy grip for getting in and out of the
head.
