Herb,

My friend who picked me up at the airport on the return from China is a
Chinese immigrant who's as Red, White, and Blue as any of us natural born
citizens. He asked, "how was your trip?" "Arthur, we're getting our asses
kicked".

His family and mine vacation together at least once a year and on our annual
golf outing we compare which employer offers the best chance for
advancement. Mine pays $10+ per hour part-time with full-time benefits and
$4000 per year tuition reimbursement. We always hire our own first for
advancement. His pays $13+ per hour with full-time benefits and $6000 per
year for college or vocational training tuition. They hire from within as
well. Both companies require that you pass a drug screen and both companies
reject 25% of the applicants on day one of the hiring process for that
reason alone. Of those that jump the first hurdle, few take advantage of
the education benefit. I know that this "access to education" plays well on
the campaign trail, but the reality is something else entirely.

Every US citizen should be required to run a hot dog stand or a paper route
for 90 days as a requirement to vote. I promise you their politics and
philosophy would change.
