Herb,

I may be nit picking here but I don't see the Somali garb as a "symbol" of
respect but rather a "show" of respect. Clothing is not an iconic symbol
such as a nation's flag. If he thinks that wearing the pin aligns him with
the other pin-wearing war-mongers, and chooses to separate himself from them
in that way, he's simply making an anti-war statement. Personally, I think
that's a pretty half-baked way of doing it but I still think it's much ado
about nothing. He still displays the flag prominently behind him all the
time. I support research on AIDS but I don't wear the little yellow ribbon
thingy myself.

Brad,

You're right, we don't know much about him but if elected, like all
presidents, he'll have lots of help. Ex: W is not really the leader. Dick
Cheney is. So....if Obama wins with Hillary as V.P. Whew! What then? At
least Obama's a suitable figurehead/statesman for the party which is
ultimately more important.

John,

That's a good question. It seems the only time we hear the SSB is at
sporting events. The games are us against them but we are all unified under
one song. We used to hear it on TV at the end of the broadcast day but now
that TV is 24 hours that's gone.
