Slim,

Thanks for that visual (Herb kissing your ass). No thank you! For a
good read on less advanced societies being over-run, read "Guns,
Germs, and Steel" by Jared Diamond or watch the PBS special that was
made on the book. What happened to the American Indians (both North
and South America) is a repeating pattern throughout history. The
founding fathers are not off the hook. If you read "Life of Johnson"
by Boswell, or Dr.Johnson himself, . Johnson complained during the
Revolutionary War that the Americans were ungrateful for the British
helping fight off the natives and now wanted their independence. But,
what the hell does that have to do with anything now? A huge chunk of
American citizens living here now are immigrants or descendants of
immigrants who came long after the conquering of the Indians occurred
and slavery ended. What responsibility do they have for events in the
past? Besides, "white men" will be the minority in a few decades.
Will they be eligible for special privileges? You don't correct past
injustices by approving government sanctioned discrimination in the
present. The discussion is pointless unless you're in the business of
shaking down perceived guilty parties for your particular "victim"
group for profit (and it is profitable).

Speaking of charities, care to make a bet on how many houses
charitable organizations have built for Katrina victims versus the
Gubment? I'm guessing it is about 10 to 1. It's easy to vote to give
someone else's money away to assuage your own (for whatever silly
reason) guilt, but quite painful when you see how inefficient Gubment
really is at getting anything productive done. I personally wouldn't
give money to a charity if it wasn't at least 50% efficient. When it
comes to social programs like food and housing, that would be an
almost unachievable target for the federal government. Calling people
selfish or unpatriotic for not wanting to pay higher taxes to "spread
the wealth" is insulting and out of touch with reality. Unless of
course, you're in the business of finding victims for fun and profits
(and votes). There comes a point in time where you have to accept that
the law of diminishing returns is a reality and if an experiment
hasn't worked after 40 years, maybe we need a new approach. Or
perhaps you don't as long as there's someone to tax in the interest of
"fairness".
