[Rhodes22-list] O'Day 26 w. IMF NOW Army Nave Game

Hi Lee,

congratulations on the great performance of your kid.  What is equally impressive is that he is thinking about the needs / wants of his dad.  That appears to be becoming increasingly rare today.

Congratulate him for me.

Art,

"BTW, any bets on the Army-Navy?"

You're on! I Googled about 20 sites and still couldn't find the point
spread on the game, but it looks likely that Navy may beat us again this year.
How about the loser buys lunch at the next Annapolis boat show?

Speaking of the military, my son made me a very proud papa today and I just
have to share the news. He received an Army ROTC scholarship for Loyola in
Baltimore. The scholarship covers everything but room and board, and Loyola is
picking that up. That's more than $200,000 over four years. His comment
was that now I can buy a new boat. Man I love that kid! I love my wife too,
but not as much after she said that we didn't have that kind of money for
college so I wouldn't be spending that much on a boat. I think a new Rhodes
would be a fair compromise.

Lee

Herb,

Somehow I knew I'd get a reaction. I'd never try in the power boat
mode for certain, Even if it didn't tip, the experience at 15k would not be
enjoyable. I usually operate the M26 as a power boat with a stubby and my
boomroom, and it starts to be very comfortable and economical.

When I first explored the feasibility of a ~26' powerboat, most take a
really bad hit on upfront costs, trailability, running costs, and maintenance.
Bill Effros has a stubby for his boat if I am correct. He'd probably have a
damn nice little power rig if he used it on his boat, although who of us would
not prefer to sail? BTW, any bets on the Army-Navy?

out, so the upper and lower side stays should be compatable (modified only for
length). The shoe for the mast bottom is available from Rudy Nickerson (D&R
Marine in Mass). Ed would have a neat craft with that IMF attached, especially
nice with the large genny and the additional ballast. Nice 26 advertised in
Racine Wisconsin. I have been tempted to put an IMF on a Mac26 with full water
ballast and hold my breath.

your's would be a 155-175% versus a 130, I suspect a net gain. Battened
main matters not since you would be using the IMF sail/mast combo with IMF boom.
You would need to add a mid-boom bail and block to the traveler, of course.
I'm not sure about alignment of the spreaders and chainplates.

non-R22 boat, but have never gotten a round tuit. The mast should fit, and the
boat should do about the same as Stan's 26' creation. Just an idea to
chew on.
