AN OLD SALT FRIEND OF MINE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM ON HIS PACESHIP 25. HE USED TO ATTACH HIS MAIN HALYARD CLIP TO THE BAIL ON AN OLD-FASHIONED FAT CLEAR GLOBE KEROSENE LANTERN AND HOIST IT UP ABOUT 3/4s OF THE MAST'S LENGTH.
WEIGHT OF LANTERN WOULD LOWER IT WHEN HALYARD RELEASED FROM ITS CLEAT.

IT WORKED FINE, HARBOR PATROL SAID IT WAS ADEQUATE, BUT WHEN HE FORGOT TO FILL THE LAMP'S RESERVOIR ONE NIGHT THE LANTERN WASN'T HEAVY ENOUGH TO WORK THE HALYARD DOWN AND IT GOT STUCK!!

  Subject: [Rhodes22-list] Anchor Lights

My Rhodes 22 has a masthead light for operating under power at night, but no
anchor light. Any ideas for one that doesn't require taking the mast down?

I'm thinking I could hoist some acceptable LED or other anchor light up to
one of the spreaders, but don't know how to get one to the top of the mast
unless we drop the mast - and I'm not sure there is power up to the top
anyway - just the VHF antenna.

  What have others done?

  Dan
