[Rhodes22-list] Cracks in Cement Ballast

Rummy:
Thanks for the additional insight.
The present owner has had her for the past 7 years up in the Northeast
in salt water, so maybe the frost/freeze cycles could be the answer.
How/why does that happen, I was told the boat was hauled out of the
water and stored for at least the past 7 years.

Ed and John,
Cracks in the ballast may or may not be a problem. I would explore
further
on the outside of the centerboard trunk looking for any cracks in the
glass
or delamination. I would use something to tap on the hull looking for
voids which will make a much different sound.
If the boat is a northern boat (you didn't say where it was located) it

might be an indication of frost freeze cycles. OR, it could be nothing
at all.
If you have a friend or know someone that knows a lot about boats, you
might ask for help. Also, depending where you and the boat are located,
you
might get a local Rhodie to help with the inspection.

Hi Ed,

The boat you're looking at may or may not be repairable depending on
the
type and extent of the damage. Does the boat currently float? As always
pictures can help in damage assesment.

Glad ta meet ya!
