[Rhodes22-list] Outboard Recommendations

Ron,

Just curious. What part of the country are you. Here in the Northeast 10% is all we can get.

I'm not convinced that the ethanol is causing many of these OB problems(other than the famous fibre glass tank issue).

Back in the 80's I routine ran 10% or more recycled ethanol from my lab in my BMW 2002 as an octane booster.

I may have given the wrong impression about my Yamaha 9.9. Its been very reliable over 10 years - never let me down. Had some hard starting due to air leaks in non oem fuel connectors and now idling issues.

I think a big part of the problem is that I use this motor on a SAIL boat. It runs at idle 90% of the time and burns maybe 2 gallons of gas a season. Power boaters and even inflatables don't seem to have the same problems.

Maybe the new electric motors coupled with a good battery and a small whisper quiet Honda generator would be a better solution.

Dave

Dave W,

Our marina has non alcoholic gas as well as a Shell station on my way to the
boat. In addition, if the gas is more than 3 mos old I will pour it into
the wife's car and refill the boat tank.

Fair winds,
