Rummy,
I'm lurking...in the electrons...don't want to frighten anyone...just tell
them I am timid and shy...and mostly quiet...a very sweet little old
lady...:^)

Thena,
"that's it...timid...quiet, shy and timid"...that's not the Thena I've
known on this list.

Rummy

Mary Lou,
I found the list in '98 as well...while I do not post as often as in my
early days, I keep up with certain members and an eye on the
conversations...guess you don't remember me because I am so quiet and
shy...and timid, yeah, that's it...timid...quiet, shy and timid...

Long ago and far away, a brilliant guy named Michael Meltzer
encouraged General Boats to get into the world of Internet marketing.
He helped them build a website and started this list on the old
Sailnet. The list flourished though Sailnet did not and we eventually
migrated to a list that Michael himself hosted and managed. A year
(or two?)ago John Lock graciously took over the management and
hosting of the list. Early on (1998? 1999?) there were a couple of
really magical gatherings at the Annapolis Boat Show - 15 - 20 boats
represented probably 40 people all told. We were fortunate in those
days to have a professional event planner as a member of the list and
she just happened to live in Annapolis.

That's the basics.

When I joined the list in 1998 there were only a few members but they
included Michael (who still posts here occasionally though he no
longer owns a Rhodes 22) and Rummy. Anyone else go back that far? Rod
and Mary maybe.

Now to answer your question. Also aboard early on were Pamela Vana
from Colorado and Alex Bell from Ohio. Pamela owned a new Rhodes 22
named Blew Daze and Alex owned an older boat - can't remember if it
had a name. They corresponded on the list, then back channel, then by
phone. We had one of the big "rhendezvous" at the Annapolis Boat Show
that year and it was obvious that they had become "an item". They
later married, moved to New Bern, NC, bought a big boat (an Island
Packet, I think) though they kept the Rhodes and opened a marine
canvas business. Sadly Alex died a couple of years ago. I believe
Pamela is still operating the business. There is a picture of them on
the "Friends" page of the Rhodes owners website.

Lots of good memories.
