[Rhodes22-list] Non-sailing Spouses

My wife falls into another 4th category. She genuinely enjoys sailing
as long as the angle of heel doesn't go past 10 degrees. If that
happens, she gets a white-knuckle death grip on nearest handhold.
She's convinced the boat is going to "tip over" and pitch us all in
the water. It's not rational and she admits that, but her terror is
real enough. Not sure where that comes from...

So, we shorten sail early and head for cover if the wind pipes up. Or
I just go out alone if it's too windy for her. It seems to be
improving with time and experience. Part of her fear was not knowing
what to do in the boat. As she gains confidence with the tiller and
sail controls, I think it will get better.

Cheers!
John
