Cowie,

Boy, you give tough tests.   I'm just qualified to answer the one about the
bimini.

You will need to use the topping lift to keep the boom above the bimini.
That will give you a mainsail leech that may be looser than ideal, but you
shouldn't be sailing with the bimini open in very heavy wind anyway.  If
your sail is made by Doyle, there should be a cord sown into the leech hem
that you can tighten to take out most of the flap.
