[Rhodes22-list] Vberth Ventilation

Rick,

This doesn't sound like your kind of mod, although you are pretty familiar with the boat. I have never slept in a vberth this size with head toward the peak, just too confining, so the feet are pointed toward the bow. The fan sized 'window' opening permits ventilation, very welcome ventilation, when the fan is in position at night. The fan is stowed under the sink all other times, behind the panel and doors. Often the fan would not ever be needed in Spring and Fall weather. The main value of any opening is for free ventilation throughout, mission accomplished. The vberth extension of about 2' in length is below the opening for additional 'height' space in the berth. Again, mission accomplished. The bulkhead window also brings more light into the cabin confines, which my wife likes alot.

The panel does not create an access problem, but possibly you are in and out of the undersink area more constantly than I am. I will typically transfer what I need from under the sink to where it will be used, usually onto the large sink area, and just close the doors; reversed after it is not needed. The panel, when brought parallel to the sink, becomes a prep surface, a dining surface, and also potential mini-nav station with clear visibility forward while using a 'netbook', which I do. The large surface is easily accessed from within or outside the cabin. It is also easily 'stowed' when I need more room.

My purpose in sharing this is so other skippers could manage the interior space without pulling out the entire bulkhead. Maybe you have some ideas used on Blue Heron?

BTW, I wouldn't normally recommend putting feet through a window opening, on the boat or at home.
