Rummy,
I just finished reading My Old Man and the Sea, the story of a father and son, David and Daniel Hays who sailed 17,000 miles across the pacific, around Cape Horn and up the Atlantic in a 25ft boat. Also read Robert Manry's Tinkerbelle , the story of the smallest boat to ever cross the Atlantic nonstop. I believe he did it in 78 days, in a Modified Montgomery 13. 13.5 ft to be exact. I am presently reading for the second time An Ocean to Ourselves, by Harold La Borde, a Trinidadian who built a 27ft Ketch and sailed to England. He saw the coast of Cornwall after 50 days.
Now I have no such heroics in mind, but it fun to reflect on the exploits and accomplishments of others, and to wonder what it would be like to attempt something like that. For sure there are many people who are living the cruising lifestyle; Mary Lou just gave us an example. When I become and "empty nester," it would be one of the options on the table.
I appreciate all the thoughts and imputs on living the cruising lifestyle for a few years. Keep the imputs coming, after all, sailing season is over for most of us.

Caesar,
Dreaming and doing are two different things. The dream of long distance
sailing is much different than the reality of being at sea and out of site of
land for extended periods. There is much to learn about, especially the
weather. Then there are the different customs check ins along the way,
pirates, total loss of wind and a bunch of things I can't even begin to think of
right now.
