GeoCities.com is officially dead and I think I have most (if not all)
of the "Blew Skies" site saved on rhodes22.org.  Page links have been
changed so you probably won't see much difference.  However, I haven't
gone thru all the pages or run a link checker to see if I missed
anything.  If you see any problems with that part of the website,
please let me know ASAP.

Cheers!

John,

Thank you for your work on the Geosites.  I for one have spent many hours
reviewing and still refer to that site for info.  Have you installed the
lift yet?  We've been in FL for several weeks now and have spent much time
with our R-22 sailing in the gulf.

Nope, it sits in a box along with the front portlights.  I'll to get
those later this winter when I get motivated.

John,
You mean that you are reinstalling the front ports? How wild is that.
Rodger spent many hours glassing them over so you couldn't tell they were even
there and now your reinstalling them. I can't wait to tell him. Be sure to
post  pictures as you progress. It might be invaluable for many on the list.

I wish I could glass over my front port openings.  They're never opened and all they do is leak when it rains...

FYI, we open ours every time we are at anchor except when it's
raining. The only time they leak is if we don't get them closed
properly. They do seem a little tricky to close properly. Are the
ports leaking where they open or do they need to be rebedded? I think
some people have fixed ports in the same location. Because we do a
fair number of overnights, I'm glad we have the opening ports.

Bob,

I wonder if a bead of silicone could be applied to the edge of a nearly-closed window, then tightened?  There is a special 3M product available, unique to the plastic in our windows, I can provide a contact name if you want to try it out.  I have the same issue to deal with on Mary Jane.  A gasket replacement might be available from the manufacturer if we can describe window dimensions with accuracy.  Does anyone know if the opening port for our boat has a product #?  Stan might be able to supply a current product # from his order records.

Yep, I can imagine how many hours Rodger put into that.  You can't
tell from the outside, but the inside is kinda ugly.  Besides that I
just needed to get more light into the cabin.  Biggest complaint my
wife has about staying aboard.  Should be a challenging project to
keep me occupied this winter.

Cheers!

I got a used pair of opening ports directly from Stan.  He was the
first to recommend going with fixed ports instead, because the opening
ports would leak.  Still, I insisted on the opening ports for the
added ventilation.  So... I intend to take a great deal of care
mounting them to insure a tight seal against the cabin top.  If the
opening ports leak, I'll just do some detective work to figure out
why.  My gut feeling is that there is some underlying cause that can
be corrected, like the ports not being mounted absolutely flat and
even.  Or torqued unevenly... whatever.

Cheers!

Bob,
Open the ports, clean the gasket that goes around the window and clean the
outside layer of the window. This should rejuvenate the seal and then close
the  windows so they are tight. A dirty seal leaks every time. Mine don't
leak at  all.

I  wish I could glass over my front port openings.  They're never opened
and  all they do is leak when it rains...
