I bought it on the open market. I'd probably call myself a beginner/intermediate sailor. This is my first boat so I'm definitely looking forward to advancing my skills. I've been looking for a boat casually for a while and when I saw the ad for the Rhodes 22 it looked like the perfect fit for my current needs.

I needed a boat that I could singlehand because my wife has only been on a sailboat with me twice and I unfortunately scared her the one time she was sailing with me alone. I hope this boat will help me ease her in to a love of sailing.

I loved the inner mast furling. It takes the "chore" aspect out of taking the boat out and bringing it back in.

I loved the amenities of a larger cruiser in the small package of the Rhodes 22 (the head and galley are perfect).

The boat I'm buying has a self tending jib which seems like a great innovation. I'm not sure how it works with the genoa so I look forward to figuring that out when I get it home and try to rig the boat.

A couple of the upgrades are interesting and I haven't seen much written about anything similar in my research. The boat has a Saildrive engine installed in the transom. It also has a wheel rather than a tiller. I know some will say (including the General Boats website) that a wheel is not as good as a tiller but I kind of like the idea. Just another amenity that makes it feel like a large cruiser.

If you could not tell, I am very excited to get her on the water!!

Leo

Welcome, Leo.  You'll love the boat.  Did you buy from General Boats
or on the open market?  Are you an experienced sailor?  Will look
forward to hearing about sailing around Cape Ann.

I've been subscribed to the list for about a week and have thoroughly enjoyed the discussions. I look forward to contributing in the future! I hope you won't mind my potentially basic questions!
