[Rhodes22-list] Cotter pins vs. rings

I've made my own version of the wrap-pins. You can get the double sided
velcro at Lowe's. It's called one wrap or some such. I used stainless
fishing leader wire to form the pins. I punched holes in the velcro to
let the pins through and plan to hold the pins in place by sewing with
some braided fishing line. Glue might work also.
We've had problems with the turnbuckles unscrewing. At one point I used
40lb mono fishing leader to tie through the hole in the end of the
threaded part. Takes too much time when I'm anxiously rigging to get in
the water. We trailer sail so it's got to be done every time. The wrap
pins by Johnson looked like the solution, but they are rather
expensive. So I made some.
Still looking for a better solution to fastening the clevis pins.
Cotter pins are out of the question. The rings work but I've had at
least two come loose of their own accord. Spares are mandatory.
Joe
