Hi all,

Raising the mast at our marina has been a harrowing affair for the first
two years of sailboat ownership due to lack of experience and lack of a mast
crane so I put the thinking cap on and came up with a way to improve the
process. This system is for raising the mast from the bow and uses the boom
as the lifting arm. In order the freeze the 90* joint the boom forms with
the mast I used a 4X4X4 schedule 80 PVC Tee fitting with a 4" to 3" bushing
in the boom slot and 18" of 3" PVC for reinforcement. this assembly is the
cut in half with a sawzall. Tape some closed cell foam in place to form
around the mast and boom then clamp it all together with large hose clamps.

the main and the jib halyards are joined together and attached to the boom.
The traveller blocks are used for the lifting because the lifter can cleat
off the lift line if you need to free a snag. With me steadying the mast and
the admiral doing the pulling the mast came up like a charm.
