Fun Fun Fun as long as you don't mind losing! Great way to get to know your boat! Pick a similar boat and just follow them the first couple of times and watch what they are doing. (if they are serious racers it will piss them off but OH WELL) Focus on boat speed more than trying to "point high" and a direct run down wind isn't always the best route, most of the time your better off reaching: it's an apparent wind thing. The other advice, especially on a lake, is "follow the puff" or if you are in a good puff of wind try to stay in it even if it takes you "off course" some, again boat speed is everything, you gotta keep the dang thing moving. Just get out and do it you'll have a blast.

Is there still anyone on the list that races? I think I'm going to enter a
acing series on Wednesday nights, more for the experience and the built in
equirement that I go sailing every Wednesday than from any expectation to
e competitive. They usually have 8-12 boats participate of every shape and
ize, but we will be the smallest by at least a few feet. I know absolutely
othing about racing rules, strategy, etc., but part of the fun will be to
earn some of that stuff.

All encouragement and advice from the list are appreciated.
