One more question and I'll let this rest.  The boards you use, do they span with entire width of the cockpit or just the footwell area?  Thanks - rob

I made a very simple cockpit sleeping system using 4" wide 1/2" thick 
boards.  The 11 boards were cut to fit across the footwell from drain trough 
to drain trough following the taper of the cockpit.  I then tacked a piece 
of 1/4 round to the end of each board so they would lock into the trough on 
either side.  The 11 boards fill the footwell completely and form a very 
large flat surface w the cockpit seats.  I then slide the starboard cockpit 
cushion next to the port cushion and bring the stern cushion alongside the 
starboard cushion.  This forms a near king size bed.  If my wife rolls onto 
the stern cushion during the night her feet do hang off the end (just like 
with a backpacking pad).

The beauty of this system is the 11 boards are the only thing that you need 
to carry around, assuming that you have cockpit cushions.  The boards nest 
back to back in two neat bungeed packages and fit under the starboard 
cockpit seats when not in use.  Mine never leave the boat so I am always 
prepared for overnight stays.
