The 6hp Tohatsu four strioke weighs in at 59 pounds. This one has the extra
long shaft at 25 inches and also has a built in alternator for charging
your house battery. It's on sale right now for less than $1,500.oo, shipping
included. I've bought from these folks before with really fast shipping.

This is a really good engine with a great price and history of being
reliable.

I have had a 4 hp 2 stroke and a 5 hp 4 stroke on my '87 R22 for 8 seasons
in Quincy and MA Bay including open water trips to Provincetown and Salem,

MA. HP has always been adequate even w 4 foot seas and 25 to 30 mph
gusts.
I would go w the 6 hp Tohatsu for the best combo of power vs weight. It
is
still light enough for 1 person to load it.

Subject: [Rhodes22-list] Hp for motor

Hello,

I am soon to an owner of a recycled Rhodes in N. C. to be kept on the
coast.

I do need to purchase an outboard. The boat could take some longer runs
down the ICW under power.

I have read that 4-10hp is recommended. I am thinking 8 hp.

Thanks for any insight.
