If stan advises against it then it must be a bad idea.  the store bought telltales have worked for me the past two seasons and as you note are one of the few affordable WM items.  I suppose I was just trying to find a way to spend some of that money I don't have. I am sure I have a few replacement tales and now just need to find some 5 year old fingers for the upgrade.  By the way our Deale Maryland WM is expanding this spring so now I can spend even more money I don't have.
