Thanks for all the advice. My 9.9 came used with the boat and I do use
stabilizer in the gas. The battery cranks the motor just fine but the motor
seems to have trouble firing to the point where I wear the battery down on
occasion.  The only way we have started it when that happens is to spray
ether in the carb intake (dangerous) or to actually cover the intake with
my hand, crank the engine and it has sprung to life. I think that means
there may be a choke issue (if there is a choke) and restricting the air
flow allows a richer mixture in the carb? I'm going to have the marine
mechanics tear into the engine this winter and I'll let you know what I
find out.  I don't have the book and I must say I can't find the book
specific to the 2004 online. I will also print out all of your messages and
put them in my pocket. I don't mind not having the engine on occasion but
they don't like us to sail within the marina for obvious reasons.
