Joe,
The other feed is for the mast head antenna. - rob

Rob:

Thanks for the photo.  It looks as if you have two feeds out of the mast.  Since there are two sets of two tires, I wonder: Do you have two lights aloft?

My connection is older, brass and just two wires.  I have only an anchor light at the top of the mast, no cruising light at the spreaders. Since Rummy said that it doesn't matter how they're attached, my query is now senseless.  If there are problems, I will invite you to fire sale.

Joe

>With the mast light, it may not make any difference.  By fitting, are you talking about the connection at the cabin top?  I thought that was a four prong connection (at least mine is).  Attached is a photo of my connection.  On mine, the common (ground) prong is the one closest to the set screw.  On mine, you line up the set screws to get the connection correct.  And you should have more than one mast light?? I've got both a mast head light at the top and an anchor light where the spreaders are.

>One trick I've used for working on the mast when it was off the boat or without the battery is to use a 9 volt battery.  I used alligator clips hooked to the battery and hooked to the prongs on the plug.  This allows me to check the mast head connections and verify the lights are working.  While 9 volts won't be a bright as 12, it's enough to verify wiring and lighting. You can also use the 9 volt battery and hook it up where your regular battery is using the clips and use a volt meter to verify which is which at the socket on the cabin top. - rob
