Bob,
Making the lazerette water tight isn't necessary. When in the water, the
R22 is naturally bow heavy and very little if any water will enter it.

For what it's worth, my new-to-me '84 was uncovered (on the hard) in a
rain storm.....port & stbd cockpit drains were clogged and aft seating
flooded
the Laz....water came into soak carpet inside the companion way.
I checked out the connection between hull & cockpit (all was good).
I then unclogged the port & stbd cockpit drains.
Trailered the R22 up a 10% incline...let gravity drain to Laz....& bailed
till dry.
I apparently need to repair the water tight integrity of my laz. (& keep
cockpit drains unclogged!!)
Hope this helps,
Bob

The hose is not usually the problem. It is the through hull fitting.
The gasket for the fitting on the '83 is probably long gone. Be careful
about tightening the nylon nut on the fitting as it may fracture
unexpectedly
(very bad if in the water) and it may be attempting to compress the
fiberglass hull if there is little or no gasket material remaining. You
will need
to haul to replace and rebed the fitting.

The cockpit drain through hull fitting is usually out of the water when
the boat is at anchor due to the shape of the hull. It generally is pushed

dow by weight in the stern (laz contents, batteries, engine or people) or
by
heavy seas. The leak may be difficult to observe and water from the laz
will usually flow forward, filling the cabin to the same level as the
drain.

Rob,

I did check the drain hose as that was my 1st thought as well. I will
recheck with a light. Laz was dry last 2 days - bilge was not - which
points to
the cap I think.
