[Rhodes22-list] bumped : Unsinkable does not = Unswampable

Built well by Stan and general boats.
Designed by Phillip Rhodes.

I still stand by using an anchor rider sail when on a mooring. Setting my mooring sometime soon and will fly a rider. Im in an area with lots of sudden squalls.

Had the masthead not been driven into the mud and the cabin door not been sucked out by what was probably a mini vortex, she would have self-righted. Of course, given the fact that the entire port side went for a long swim, it may as well have sunk. I don't think this freakish weather situation, like most "accidents," could have been anticipated in the design of the R-22. Stan designed it to sail (which it does very well) not sit at a mooring. These flipping incidents have simply pointed out a rare (rare) weakness.

We cannot scorn the "unsinkable" claim under the unusual circumstances that dumped the John Dawson into the drink. If a car manufacturer claims a certain model gets 400 miles per tank of gas, and an unexpected rock punctures hole in the gas tank and reduces the mileage on that trip to 43 miles, you can't attack the manufacturer's claim. You simply fix the hole, try to prevent future holes and keep in mind that holes can happen. The odds are very good that every other trip will produce the claimed gas mileage.
