Yes, Mike,
The 7 gallon homebrew bucket would be very useful under sail or
motor if filled with homebrew and a nice bit of tubing down into your
onboard kegorator. Should give you what, 15psi and a very nice and mellow
trip?

Oh, and lest one be unimpressed by the 40 lbf provided by the bucket or the
fancy inflatable float, do remember that force is being applied at the end
of a pretty darn long lever, the mast, and the fulcrum (center of mass, I
would suppose) is much closer to the hull than the top of the mast. If, for
example, the center of mass was such that there was 10x as much distance
between the center of mass and the masthead as between the center of mass
and the bottom of the keel, then the amount of force applied to "push the
keel" down would be 400 lbf, I believe (this assumes I'm remembering how to
do a free body force calculation correctly). This would be added to
whatever force the keel is already exerting to right the boat. Of course,
the masthead float's contribution diminishes to zero as the boat begins to
right and the masthead comes out of the water.

I usually have a 5 gallon bucket aboard for cleaning, carrying, etc. I have
a spare halyard rigged to fly our asymm. So I guess all I need is a tight
fitting lid and a lid puller. The former is readily available at Home Depot
and the latter (trust me, you'll want a lid puller) can be had at any
homebrewers shop. Seems like cheap insurance if one has to anchor or moor
out in a blow.  Don't know that it would be very practical under sail;
perhaps under power.
