A few things I didn't see mentioned are that when the top is up,there is
alot of storage area on both sides of the mast and both sides of the
poptop that is now under cover. It's a good place to put all that stuff
that you crammed into the V-berth,that you now want to sleep in.
Keep in mind that I am on a small, well protected lake, but in the heat
of summer, with little chance of storms,I anchor from the stern and let
the front of the bimini rest against the PTE,and leave the back of the
bimini up in the air as a wind scoop to turbocharge the cabin with what
breeze that is available thru the back window. Also note that my bimini
is mounted on sliders attached to the jib sheet block tracks. May not
work as well with a permently mounted bimini.
I can see why Mary Lou likes the twist fasteners, but with snaps, you can
take down the PTE from the inside of the cabin,by sliding a finger on
each side of the snap and prying up.
On nights I suspect rain,I anchor from the bow and use the bimini as a
umbrella for the rer window to keep it open for air.
I've never stayed overnight without the PTE and don't suspect I would
like it very much
As a test to see if you would like the PTE,next time you go sailing for
the day, leave the poptop down all day and see how handy that is for you.
