Looks like you can cut and crimp, but I wouldn't want to try it:

You might be able to find a stay adjuster/turnbuckle that's slightly shorter
to work with your current set-up if you don't need to shorten it too much:

If the boat sails I'm not sure I'd mess with it.  If it doesn't I'd hire a
professional rigger.  It's only boat money.
