[Rhodes22-list] I'm Back

Ha ha. You are all too kind! Feels like coming home to a bunch of old friends.

As of late, I have been playing with a Hobie Tandem Island (trimaran kayak/sailboat). Did the WaterTribe North Carolina Challenge last fall, and but for work conflicts would have done the Everglades Challenge a couple of weeks ago (check out www.watertribe.com ). So, now I am thinking of taking the kayak through the Everglades Wilderness Waterway. If I do, then I will definitely check out the suitability of the area for shoal draft boats like our Rhodes; especially near the Gulf. It is a very remote area but looks enticing. Anyone ever sail the area of Everglades City/Thousand Islands and down to Cape Sable and Flamingo?

Another trip I did last year was an outing called the FL120. It is a group small boat sailors that sail the Santa Rosa Sound and Pensacola Bay, Florida over a 4 day period. Interesting bunch of sailors. I did it in a 14 foot dinghy last year, but am thinking of doing it in the Rhodes, which would be luxurious by comparison. If anyone is interested, the best way to get information about the trip and sign up is on their YahooGroup site. Just go to Yahoo Groups and do a search for FL120. Of course, I will be happy to answer any questions about it.

Thoughts for future trips....I have often thought about going back to the Bahamas again, but this time through Freeport and over to the Abacos. Or maybe even Turks & Caicos like Chris suggests. I would definitely need to carve out way more than 10 days to do it though. Would be great to spend about a month over there.

Or, maybe join up with Captain Ron for part of his Great Lakes circumnavigation. I have always wanted to go up to the Apostle Islands.

Or...join the group of Rhodies in their San Juan Islands trip.

Or maybe even attempt what would be the ultimate adventure: talking my wife into a multi-day trip. Now that would be an interesting story.

Add me to the chorus: Welcome back Bill! Just recently I found myself wondering what had become of Bill Wickman.

(Figured you were still completing the circum-navigation.)

Yes Bill,
Welcome back, now go scratch that itch and let us know how it goes.
Southern Bahamas and Turks & Caicos sound nice.

Welcome back "Bahama Bill". I have so missed your stories of boldly going
where we would all love to sail...

After a long absence, I am back on "da List." In the way of introduction to
those that have joined in the last year or so, I have a 2000 Rhodes22 that
Stan did some upgrades to around 2008(?). Biggest trips I've sailed so far
have been to the Bahamas and the Dry Tortugas (posted trip log some time
ago). I'm based out of Knoxville, TN but am always looking to drag the boat
down to Florida or the Carolinas.

Anyway, I have the listserve set up to send postings to my email account so
should be able to keep up going forward. Hope I can be of some help to
everyone.
