It depends on thedle weight of your motor and age of the boat. I have a
really heavy motor. I have an 89 boat. The new boats are being made
thicker and stronger in the transom to handle the larger 4 strokes. I have
rebuilt by motor lift once because it broke and another time to accomodate
heavier motor. I have added reinforcement inside the transom to stiffen
it. My transom is thin and I do worry. I travel the 10 mile range with
motor on but strap it up tightly to stern rails. I will remove it for
longer travel.
