[Rhodes22-list] Center Board leak

My 81 R22 Trunk flange and Cap needed to be relined. I used 1/4" Garolite
(McMaster-Carr.com). I made a template of the original and had to use two
48" pieces which i lined up on top of the flange. I cut the holes with a
drill press but needed to correct some when the entire job was epoxied in.
The Cap I obviously took home and did the same way. Only used a bit of
silicone in the fastener holes to help seal the bit of extra space in some
of the holes. No leaks at all going on year 2.

When on dry land you can do a compression test with a garbage bag sealed
over the centerboard opening and a good dry vac set as a blower blowing air
into the underside of the slot. Brush a mix of soap and water around the
gasket and flange /cap to see if any bubbles are rising.

1/4" neoprene gasket holes made with standard hole punch. I advise using
USA SS cap bolts 1 1/4" and nylock nuts only. Tighten in a zig zag pattern.
No matter what you are doing, this is one of the toughest jobs in owning
this boat. I usually take out my settee to make room to get to the rear of
the board under the companionway.

I have pics of this job if anyone cares to see them, email me off list if
you want.
