Since you are a director of music, and you sail on a lake, please permit me to suggest an electric outboard.  I use a long shaft 101 lb thrust Minkota.  The current version is

Minn Kota Riptide T/112
(112 Lbs. Thrust, 52" Shaft)
This is  a salt water rated motor in case you want to trailer your boat to a more interesting location.  it is quiet in case you enjoy music, bird songs or just the lapping of waves or the tingling of your rigging.  Also, it starts every time with no need to pull a started cord.  Also, it has high torque a low speed: Very useful in maneuvering around docks. Cost is about $840.  You can lift it with one hand.  You will need Three 12V batteries.  You could buy these at Costco along with a three bank charger from Minkota, or if the concept of light weight appeals, buy three 12V, 40 AMP-hr prismatic  LIPO batteries on the internet. the cost of gasoline is zero.  the maintenance cost is also zero.  The Lipo batteries although more expensive than lead acid last 4 times longer. my batteries are ~ 13 lbs each as opposed to 35 lbs for lead acid.

peace and quiet

Joe

Subject: [Rhodes22-list] Help needed with choosing an outboard for my Rhodes	22

I'm in the process of joining you Rhodes owners after waiting 4 years to finally make an order. I first saw the Rhodes 22 at the Annapolis Boat Show in 2010 and have been wanting one ever since. Stan, at General Boats, is in the process of recycling a 1998 boat for me and I have made most of the necessary decisions. The one remaining issue is what motor to have installed. I'm not very knowledgeable about outboards, so I would appreciate any specific recommendations you might have.

I'm going to order a motor and have it shipped to GB. My sailing will be done on Kentucky Lake, not the ocean, so I don't think I need the biggest motor possible. I'm thinking either a 6 hp or 8 hp would be sufficient. Stan says I also need:
If possible -- High Thrust sailboat outboard
Whether high thrust or not, I should get a Sailboat pitched propeller
Long tiller handle with throttle and gear shift on the handle.

So, do any of you have a recent OB purchase that meets these requirements?
Has anyone recently had an OB installed by GB?

Thanks for your help
