Just a word of caution - Practical Sailor did a bit about cleaning rope (see
http://www.practical-sailor.com/issues/37_7/features/clean_rope_10509-1.html
), and concluded that bleach significantly reduces the line's strength. They
suggest you double long lines such as sheets, then tie a monkey braid
(http://www.animatedknots.com/chainsinnet/index.php?Categ=decorative) in the
doubled line to prevent tangling. Put the long lengths of chained rope &
short (untied) ropes in a mesh bag or pillow case as Rummy suggested, then
wash it in mild detergent on a delicate setting.

Re-reading what I just wrote, I feel like Martha Stewart. <shudder>

Good idea about washing lines - never thought of running thru washing
machine. My furling is oversize as I don't like feel of small lines on
furlers.
