[Rhodes22-list] Doyle UPS sail experience, helm balance, etc.

To be honest I had not heard of the UPS before you mentioned it. It seems
to be a Doyle specific thing.

I've raced with code zeroes before and from what I can gather their
function and design are very similar to the UPS. Spinnaker type material
from .75 to 1.5, hoisted on a spinnaker halyard with continuous line
furling. Quantum and North make them and the quotes I've received so far
are over $1000, so the UPS looks more cost effective.

My thoughts on the sprit will be to fabricate a sturdy aluminum or
stainless pole about 2ft long and U-bolt it to the f'oredeck with about 1ft
extending beyond the stem. I'll attach the furler to a dead-eye on the end
of the sprit.
