A word of caution regarding going (diving) into the water to free the centerboard especially in fresh or brackish water. Don't do it unless away from the dock and shore. Let me explain why. There is a potentially deadly hazard that has finally been recognized and labeled called electric shock drowning. You can Google this subject and get a comprehensive list of data and specific accident reports but suffice to say, stay out of the water in marinas and the recommended 100 yards away from 120 volt AC power sources. This includes boats with shore power, boat lifts, dock receptacles, generators, inverters, etc. 120volts and higher AC voltages have proven to be deadly.
There are no documented accident reports in salt water as that water is more conductive than the human body but not so in fresh/brackish water.
I would be happy to discuss further but do not want to bore the group.
As an electrician on both land and boat I was totally intrigued and then horrified by this phenomenon now labeled electric shock drowning.
Thanks for the platform to present this and although not a Rhodes owner have talked to Stan in the past and know this fine little yacht and the great heritage attached to it.
Sincerely,
