The same as it is seeing your iPhone or Android outside in the sun. The newer model screens seem to get better and better especially in the sun. That said, it can be somewhat difficult if it's really really bright at the right angle to sun. However, all things considered I find the trade off well worth it. I tend to use the Bimini if it's really sunny.

Cheers,
Ted

>>> iNavX can import just about any kind of chart. http://www.inavx.com It can run on both devices iPhone and iPad. It can also act as a repeater using a wifi connection by transferring NMEA data over TCP/IP. In other words to can connect to other boat instruments like autopilot, AIS, speed, wind, and depth. Obviously, this isn't something we use on our small boats, but you could if you really want to. It's the full featured option and runs about $50 in the App Store.

Now the question is, do you want wifi only or an iPad that has wifi and cellular data (4G LTE) as well. The latter has a built in GPS while the former will require a separate GPS device like a Bad Elf and Garmin GLO. These little devices give your wifi only iPad a GPS capability using Bluetooth. I've found my Garmin Glo to be highly accurate and I hear great things about the Bad Elf gizmo as well.
