I have always stepped and unstepped with mast toward the stern, especially as it will transport with the foot toward the bow.  I have used a roller attached to the transom to make it simpler to bring the mast to the bow pulpit for attachment - might help you a little.  The potential side 'sway' of the mast can be controlled with blocks (Ronstan RF41530 available at West or Defender) attached to the foward lower side stays (stepping) or rear lowers (unstepping).  Try it, you'll like it.
A head's up for any potential BoomRoom'ers for 2016.
Happy New Year to all !

At the beginning/end of season when i step/lower the mast, i find thattensioning the stays takes up the majority of the time, not the stepping ofthe mast... this doesn't address that time sink, otherwise I'd rig thissystem up just for the seasonal stepping of the mast.--Curtiss/v Ruck ItHavre de Grace, MDOn Fri, Jan 1, 2016 at 1:13 PM The Rhodes 22 Email List wrote:> Paul, while I can appreciate your efforts to expedite the launching and> sailing process....tongue weight would be affected by what you describe.> Right?
