Graham,

" the front brace (with the V cushion) should first be retracted all the way
and
then returned to touch the bow of the boat only once it is hauled out. "

Ah, I've never seen this mentioned here previously but sounds like exactly
what I need to do. Thanks so much.

I've had good success motoring onto trailer at 2 knots or so and getting
boat up to V but when I pull it out, even a little, bow lifts away. I cannot
crank hard enough to move boat further fwd.

As I have only a 1/2 mile from launch to house and speeds below 20 mph, I've
left it . Attempts to bring fwd by heading down hill (slightly) and slamming
on brakes did not move boat. Tongue weight seems fine.

This being Maryland, I fear I'll have to pay to get brakes fixed (totally
disintegrated) before I can pass inspection to get a tag for longer
trailering. Right now I do what so many locals do and take chance with out
of date tag for the 1/2 mile tow.

I do launch with trailer extender back about 2'. This seems to get boat just
deep enough into water with truck tires in water just touching bottom of
rims.
