[Rhodes22-list] Electric motors; and searching the archives

The Torqeedo outboard is a nice complete solution .  Before this became available we installed a Minnkota long shaft , 101 lb thrust trolling motor with three 12V  40 Amp-hr Lithium ion batteries.  Either solution gives you a motor that always starts, & runs well at low to moderate speeds.  When we still had the 175 genny, we motor sailled with the electric helping to tack over the large sail.

The

Minn Kota Riptide T/112 (112 Lbs. Thrust, 52" Shaft
sells for $900 on the MinnKota site. The long shaft torqeedo Travel 1003 is about the same size motor with about the same sized battery that we have ( 530 W-hr.) for about the same price when you add in the cost of the batteries and chargers.
The only question that I have is the shaft lengths.
Minn Kota claims 53" while Torqeedo claims 75 cm which is about 30", but maybe they are measured from different points?

I helped Stan establish a relationship with Torqeedo and he has recently provided two types of electric motor installations, one is a pod built into the bottom of the boat and the other is an outboard with controls and batteries.

Good morning, Rhodes list,

I know this topic must have been covered amply before, but does anyone have any thoughts about whether an electric motor, maybe a trolling motor or something slightly more powerful, would be sufficient to move a Rhodes?  Basically I’d just like something that would get me in and out of the slip, and perhaps slowly move me back to the marina should the wind die.  Any recommendations for specific ones?

This is prompted by my formerly trusty Tohatsu’s failure to start at all this weekend, as we ventured down to the lake to watch the eclipse (it was amazing, even viewed from the cockpit of the boat in its slip).

Also, I tried going to the website to see if I could search the archives before making this inquiry, but I don’t see how to do that.  If there’s a good way, I’d appreciate some instruction.

Thanks!
