Stan has improved the design of the car as he describes in his previous email.

Subject: Re: [Rhodes22-list] Broken outhaul car

The outhaul car was original equipment from when Fretless was recycled in 1998.

I believe there was a thumbscrew in that threaded hole. I'm not sure that we used it consistently when reefing as the pressure of the lines would tend to keep it in place but I do seem to remember giving it a turn or two at times.

It does slide in the track and when reefed can follow the clew of the sail forward on the boom. We didn't always do that but it did give a little more control of the leech of the sail. And I believe that's when we would use the thumbscrew.

Unfortunately, I don't have any good pics of the assembly.

Best,

Mary Lou

I noticed an empty threaded hole in top of the car where I assume a bolt of some type should be to anchor it in place? Mine just slides around in the track by hand but seems to only serve to guide the outhaul line through the end of the boom and I can't see how it would work if it slid in the track with the end of the sail. Or is it only locked in another position for "reefing" the IMF sail? I haven't needed to do that yet so maybe that's what I'm missing...
