[Rhodes22-list] Advice / Recommendations - Purchase of used Rhodes 22

The trailer itself may have brakes rusted in position. Trailer lights are
finicky things. I personally upgrade my boat trailers with LED the first
time they annoy me. I'd have the bearings and tires checked out before
towing at any speed.

Trailers are notorious for causing minor denting of a sailboat hull if
incorrectly placed bunks put pressure where internal support is lacking.
The Rhodes (possibly excepting some ancient ones from the 70's built under
license) seem to be stout little boats, so I expect the hull is fine. Stan
has been using a custom made trailer from Triax out of North Carolina for a
few years. I'd hate to put this heavy boat on a bad trailer without an
experienced team backing me up. The triax trailer is a decent design, and
puts pressure where it is supposed to. It comes with a single 4000 pound
axle (6 lug), or options for two axles. I bought the single axle, and have
hauled 6 hours plus Stan's guy hauled 8 hours for delivery. It isn't a
fast haul with an Explorer, duel axles and a truck might be better if you
are able to take long road trips with yours. This year I'll have to
settle for a 3 hour run to Erie, weather and family responsibility
permitting.
