[Rhodes22-list] Anchor Locker/Tray

Joe,

My tray was not securely fastened when I took delivery of the boat. In
rough seas this caused me to spill the anchor rode and tray water onto the
V-berth (not desirable). I secured the tray to prevent future mishaps. I
suggest that you check this before adding a bilge line.

I find that small vinyl hoses (1/2" - 3/4") that might be your choice for
the run to the bilge tend to collapse or clog with debris over time. I
suggest using a 1" (to prevent clogging) spiraflex hose (coil supported to
prevent collapse). Northern Tool has a hose for $35 that should do the
trick (JGB Enterprises Suction Hose - 1in. x 20ft., Model# A007-0169-0240).

Subject: [Rhodes22-list] Anchor Locker/Tray

I've read much of the commentary on anchoring and the anchor tray on the
forum. Has anyone considered installing a drain to the bilge from the tray
in the foc'sil?

So far I've kept my anchor rode in the tray with a cowl vent in the deck
port for ventilation. Being concerned with dampness, I've installed a solar
powered vent in the pop top that provides constant airflow sucking through
the forward cowl vent. I figure that this should provide sufficient
ventilation to dry the anchor rode after anchoring. Usually I'll let the
rode air out on the fore deck prior to feeding back down to the tray. This
doesn't address the issue of slime, mud, etc. I have hosed down the anchor
rode after returning to dock but this requires leaving it on the deck longer
than I'd like and especially during docking. Not good.

I'm thinking of putting a drain in the bottom of the tray with a hose to the
bilge so rain/spray entering the cowl vent can drain to the bilge rather
than collect in the tray. Any thoughts on this viz. reasons not to do this?

Thanks for your ideas.

Joe
