Joe,

I don’t see any problem with doing this, assuming that you can find some unobtrusive way to route the tubing.

Another approach, which would require more bravery, would be to install a thru-hull fitting in the bow slightly lower than the level of the bottom of the tray, and run a piece of tubing from the tray to the fitting.  
The tubing run would be much shorter, and much less likely to clog.  Of course you would have to drill a hole in your hull…
