George,

I agree with Rick and Hank.  What’s the matter with your outboard that you don’t trust it?  What’s the worst that could happen?  The wind blows you down on a dock or another boat or you get stuck in the mud.  You stand by with a boat hook and fend off.   You put out a stern anchor and kedge off the sand bar or beach.  It’s not like any of this happens at high speed.  No one is likely to be hurt.  Learn to relax, it’s all part of the adventure!
