[Rhodes22-list] Thread Police and Military Service

Peter,

OK, a clunky work around is better than no work around at all.

The Oct 31st “End Of Summer” post was created on my i-phone by deleting all the Oct 23rd post content, changing the subject line, and then typing new content. I thought I had deleted all the original content and didn’t discover I had not deleted the attached picture until after I had sent the post. Are you saying Pipermail keyed off just the attached photo to determine where it was going to file this new post even though it had a different subject line and 99+% new content? Good grief! What are we dealing with here? Is there some sort of label in the background, not visible to the user; that, Pipermail assigns to a completely new thread? This invisible label then stays with that thread no matter how it is modified?

Roger,

I've gone into the archives to see how the messages were threaded. There should be a screen shot attached. The page of the archives can accessed using https://na01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.rhodes22.org%2Fpipermail%2Frhodes22-list%2F2021-October%2Fthread.html&data=04%7C01%7C%7C565b9efc5ad04c27042608d99fc9319d%7C84df9e7fe9f640afb435aaaaaaaaaaaa%7C1%7C0%7C637716508737972991%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C1000&sdata=niLdiMT516KkK5thHMudYk6hnF5LKcVwU7mFjRFAfTg%3D&reserved=0

The thread 'Furling headsail replacement' was started by Michael McKay on Oct 14 at 12:21 PM. You replied to Michael's post on Oct 14 at 3:23 PM. Then on Oct 23 at 8:27 AM, you replied to your own Oct 14 reply.

Pipermail determination of threading seems appropriate, but in both of your replies you kept the subject unchanged, and you included the text of the message being replied to. So those posts don't do much to prove (or disprove) my theory that Pipermail uses neither subject nor message content in making decisions about threading.

However, on Oct 31st, you sent a post with the subject 'End of summer', which Pipermail threaded as a response to your Oct 23 'Furling headsail replacement' post. Not only was the subject changed, but the Oct 31st post contained none of the content of the Oct 23rd post other than the picture attachment. Do you happen to recall how you created that email?
