Bill,

Suppose you made the Admiral a promise to play tennis with her in every
country (port-of-call?) you visited?

My wife, Deb, has sailed aboard the cat & likes it a whole bunch more than
our R-22 for pretty much the same reasons I proposed to you. However, she
has also sailed enough to understand about long passages at sea out of sight
of land & storms at sea. Those things scare her more than the heeling & I
don't know how to take them away. Deb knows herself well enough to know
that a cruising lifestyle simply isn't for her. Deb has taken sailing
classes & actually sails Dynamic Equilibrium reasonably well. But, she will
never be a serious cruiser, at least not on any size boat I am ever likely
to be able to afford.

Since our R-22 serves perfectly well for the sort of cruising my sons & I
enjoy doing, we hang onto it. The boat has long since been paid for & the
annual expense of owning & sailing it are pretty minimal. It's difficult to
justify the expense & hassles of owning a bigger boat when my wife & I both
know she is not a cruiser.

Only you & the Admiral can decide if the cruising lifestyle is right for
your family, even if a cruising cat took away her fear of heeling. Anyway
you look at this issue, it's a lot of money & a big life changing decision.
I only suggest possibilities...

Roger
